One evening, during a fierce snowstorm, two woodcutters find themselves stranded and seek refuge in a hut.

The young woodcutter sees a stunning woman dressed in white approach and exhale white smoke over his companion, a chilling breath that claims the old man's life. The lady then bends down to breathe on the young man's face, but hesitates at the final moment granting him his life, with the warning that if he ever discloses the events of that fateful night she shall kill him as well.

In the following year, he meets a beautiful young woman. Their union leads to marriage, and they embark on a joyous life together, blessed with ten children. One night, while gazing at his wife, he becomes lost in thought and decides to share the story of his past encounter with the Yuki-Onna many years ago. How she looked into his eyes and for reasons unknown decided to spare his life in exchange for his silence.

In a sudden fit of anger, his wife exclaims, "If it weren't for our sleeping children, I would end your life right now!" With those words, she transforms into a luminous white mist and vanishes.

Other tales end in his death. This is one of those tales.
