Hello

My name is Amanda Sofía Arroyo Grillasca (b. 2000), a Puerto Rican visual artist and poet. After years of being recognized for my realism, I now dedicate myself to dark surrealism and storytelling to deconstruct who I am, who I was, and who I wish to become. Traversing the intimate and the political, my art is an investigation of my subconscious, methodically giving shape to the relationship between my experiences and the much larger forces that rule our world.

Somewhat gory, in black and white, my first and ongoing series, “Sé Perfecta,” explores themes of identity and power through the distorted lens of a young woman coming of age and her limited understanding of the world. Feminism, classism, history, and psychological distress are some of the core themes in my pieces, revolving around one main conflict: addiction.

Each piece is a closely studied moment in time, a question not meant to find answers but to challenge what I once assumed to be true.
